Epson to Launch Volume Production of the Functional Safety Model IMU M-G355QDG0Achieving IEC 61508 SIL1 compliant design contributes to functionally safe inertial measurement systemsMunich - 28. August 2025 - Seiko Epson Corporation (TSE: 6724, "Epson") has expanded its lineup of inertial measurement units1 (IMU) equipped with high-performance, six degrees of freedom sensors. The new M-G355QDG0("M-G355" below) is a functional safety compliant IMU with the international standard IEC 61508 SIL1 that is now in volume production and began shipping in May 2025.
First launched in 2011, Epson's IMUs have been used in an array of customer applications, from precision agriculture (GNSS2), low earth orbit small satellites using consumer or industrial components, and EO/IR camera gimbals3 to antenna platform vibration control and stabilization, earning an excellent reputation for outstanding performance and quality. Recently, in addition to their basic characteristics, the demand for products that perform safety functions is increasing. Along with that, the demand for IMUs to be designed and produced in compliance with international standards is increasing.
The new product M-G355 is based on the conventional 1-inch product M-G366PDG0 ("M-G366" below) and is the first of our IMU products to comply with IEC61508 SIL1 standards. Compliance with this standard allows for application in various industrial fields that require high stability and high reliability.
By expanding and enhancing its lineup of one-inch platform products, Epson is giving customers more options, allowing them to choose a product that has the best functions and performance for their particular needs and applications.
Given the social and technological changes that are underway, Epson believes that the need for precision sensors will only expand going forward. We will continue to leverage our philosophy of efficient, compact, and precise innovation to provide small, lightweight, low-power sensing systems that offer outstanding precision, high stability, and low noise to significantly contribute to our customers' products and services.
